Hayswood Hospital:-Maysville, KY

Located just down the river from Cincinnati in the neighboring river town of Maysville, Kentucky; the Hayswood Hospital was closed in 1983 after being replaced by a new facility. As historical preservation groups work to try and turned this abandoned complex into potential use for re-development, the hospital sits abandoned containing the remnants of a morgue and x ray facility. Hocking Valley Drive-In: -Logan, OH

Although an exact date can not be found for when this drive-in closed; the screen, snack bar, marquee and box office still stand. The Snack Bar has been renovated and resued by the local Logan Lions club and the field is occasionally used for car shows and ball games.

 

     
 

Nelsonville Rail Yards: -Nelsonville, OH

An abandoned set of rail cars from the Chessie System and Hocking Valley rail company behind a modern apartment complex in Nelsonville, Ohio.This abandoned grain silo facility which once belonged to the Consolidated Grain and Barge Company now sits above Mill Creek overlooking Cummingsville and downtown Cincinnati.

     
 

Nelsonville-York Middle School: -Nelsonville, OH

Three story middle school located in the heart of downtown Nelsonville, Ohio. By all indications it was last used in 1987 or somewhere around the late 80's. Aside from the cafeteria caving in, much of the building is still intact including the P.A. system, desks, chalk boards, school office, and much more. These photographs are from a brief visit in April, 2008.

 

     
 

Parker Tobacco Company: -Maysville, KY

Started in 1932 by Alex Parker Sr, this tobacco production facility located down the river from Cincinnati in nearby Maysville, Kentucky ceased operations in 1996 after filing for bankruptcy. At one point its production was so large that it exported tobacco to much of Europe and South American with partnership operations in Brazil. The properties were auctioned off in 1997 and a fire destroyed a large amount of the property in May of 2007. Today what's left after the fire stands as a testament to what was once one of Maysville's key economic contributors. Full article here.

The Cleveland Subway -Cleveland, Ohio

Beneath the Veterans' Memorial Bridge, crossing the Cuyahoga River is the lower deck of the bridge which once provided an exclusive right-of-way to Cleveland's streetcars. Abandoned since 1954, the abandoned subway line and station are opened to visitors twice a year, providing a look into Cleveland's transit past which now sports a decaying 1950's esque atmosphere.
